IMMIGRANT COUMMUNITIES SHOULD NOT TAKE SACRIFICES BY NATIVES LIGHTLY

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Immigrant communities in a country should not take lightly the sacrifices of the natives, said Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, Thursday.

He said they should seriously consider the need to protect the interests of the natives who were generous in coming up with consensus and common prosperity.

Historically, the Malays had been so tolerant with the immigrants and accepted them as they were without them sacrificing their culture and language of their country of origin, he said.

"In Malaysia, there are leaders who are not even fluent in Malay, but can be elected as the people's representatives. Moreover, they (immigrant communities)enjoy the freedom to earn a living, rake in wealth as much as possible and practise their religion and speak out," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

He was commenting on the speech by the Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah yesterday which said that immigrant communities in a country should respect and accept the tradition, history and system of government of the country that had accepted them.

Ibrahim said Perkasa was of the view that Raja Nazrin's speech was a reminder on the adjustment process of any immigrant race that occurred worldwide, except in the case of immigration to the United States, Australia and New Zealand where the natives were treated badly and oppressively.

He said the speech was also a follow-up to the special statement by the Council of Rulers recently on the privileges, position, dignity and eminence of the Malay Rulers, the special position of the Malays and the rights of the other races under the Federal Constitution.

He said immigrant races worldwide mostly swore loyalty and allegiance to the new country and leader where they sought refuge or to reside in, and had to make many cultural, language and living adjustments.
