KOTA BARU: Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Ismail Petra has returned to Istana Mahkota here after being discharged from Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), where he had been warded for five days.

Sultan Ismail Petra, who was in a wheelchair, left the hospital at 5pm in a white Toyota Alphard accompanied by the Raja Perempuan, Tengku Anis Abdul Hamid, and their daughter, Tengku Amalin A'isyah Putri.
Their vehicle was escorted by several police cars and an ambulance.
State deputy police chief Datuk Amir Hamzah Ibrahim said at the hospital that he received an instruction from the palace to facilitate the return of the sultan to Istana Mahkota at 4pm.
"The sultan reached the istana safely about 5.10pm. He is in good health," he said.
Several members of the royal family have claimed that the sultan was held at the hospital without his consent.
In an unprecedented move, his lawyers filed a habeas corpus writ on Friday to allow him to seek treatment in a hospital of his choice.
The Special Court is scheduled to hear the application today.
Royal Household Comptroller Datuk Abdul Halim Hamad said the regent gave his consent for the sultan to return home after his condition had stabilised.
"The regent felt that there was no reason for the sultan to stay at HUSM any longer as his health and security had been seen to," he said.
A panel of specialists checked on the sultan's health on Friday and Saturday.
