Shuttler grabs winning point in Malaysia’s march into semis

2010/05/13

Hafiz Hashim was his inconsistent self yet again but it was to Malaysia’s benefit this time as he clinched the winning point in the 3-2 Thomas cup quarter-final victory over Denmark at Putra Stadium yesterday.
The thousands of fans at the stadium and the millions more at home would have probably given up after Denmark drew level at 2-2, especially after hafiz’s
pathetic performance against Japan’s Shoji Sato on Tuesday.

But as the match progressed, it became apparent that this was a different hafiz
and Denmark’s Joachim Persson had no answer as the Malaysian won 21-12, 21-10.

Lee chong Wei and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong had given Malaysia a 2-0 lead but when Wong Choong Hann and scratch pair Zakry Latif-Hoon Thien How lost the second singles and doubles respectively, fears arose of Malaysia falling the way they did against Japan.

But Hafiz rose to the occasion and Malaysia now face mighty China in tomorrow’s semi-finals.
