GERIK UMNO ASKS EVERYONE TO RESPECT POWER TRANSITION PLAN

PENGKALAN HULU, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The Gerik Umno division today urged everyone in the party to respect the power transition plan scheduled for March to avoid splits in Umno.

Its head, Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the party would face a bigger problem if there splits in the party as a result of a dispute over the power transition.

Speaking to reporters outside the division's delegates conference here, Tajol Rosli hoped there would be no more calls for the transition plan or the party election, which had been postponed, to be speeded up.

He said the power transition plan had been agreed upon following discussions between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and it should be allowed to run smoothly.

"We (Umno members) certainly don't want such things (splits) when Umno is weak currently," he said.
